New products make camper life increasingly accessible

Bijgewerkt op: 25 mei 2024

In the past, you had to save for many years to be able afford a camper, if you ever managed to save it. But the many new products that have appeared on the market make converting your van or even passenger car into a mini camper (temporarily or permanently) child's play.

First: The power supply

With the large power banks that are for sale nowadays, you can power almost everything you need on the road, such as a cool box, your (small) kettle, some lighting and of course charging your smartphone, laptop and tablet. I have the Ecoflow Delta 2 (1024KW) and my 19 liter Mestic cool box can easily run for 24 hours (in eco mode), and even then the Ecoflow is not empty. the Ecoflow can be charged with the 12V connection in your car, or via a flexible solar panel, or of course, simply on shore power, where it charges from 0% to 100% within only 70 minutes which is insane fast.

Second: Running water

I use the Boxio Wash Basin myself, a truly bizarre invention. 5 liters of clean water and 5 liters to collect the gray water, a tap, sink and a handy pump with which you can pump and let the water flow. The longer you pump, the longer the water continues to flow. The great thing is, you don't need any electricity for this at all, and when emptying, you carry 5 liters of gray water with you, and then you fill your clean jerrycan and again you only have 5 liters with you to carry. So you never carry more than 5 liters at a time!!! You can even connect a shower head so you can also take a shower (outside). Everything is in a plastic lightweight curver-like crate and is therefore feather light and compact.

Third: The toilet

The toilet I have is also from Boxio, which is also built into a lightweight curver-like crate with exactly the same dimensions as the Boxio wash basin. This is a dry toilet, which means you can empty it anywhere, as no chemicals are used. Your pee can simply be emptied in a (public) toilet, or in a well, it is allowed, and you put your number 2 in a kind of pedal bin with a bag in it and then you throw some hemp litter over it (which is similar to what you use, for example into a hamster or rabbit cage). This removes all odors. Afterwards, tie the pedal bin bag closed and you can simply throw it away with the 'residual waste' anywhere.

Conclusion:

With these products, camper life has become feasible and affordable for large groups of people. Even most 'real campers' with large professional campervans are increasingly using the above products because they find out that chemical toilets are a hindrance, and that carrying 100 liters of water in your van is quite absurd!

Nothing in this article is sponsored, I have given my own honest opinion. Videos about the 3 products mentioned above, which I own and use myself, will soon appear in which I will go into more detail about my own experiences with them so far, and I will mention both the advantages and disadvantages.
